Srinagar, 04 January (H.S.): Weather across Kashmir is expected to remain largely dry over the next two days, with a brief change likely around January 6, according to the latest forecast.
A Weather official said that January 4 and 5 are expected to remain mostly dry across the region, providing relief from active winter conditions. On January 6, weather is likely to turn generally cloudy, with a possibility of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir.
He said that plains and lower areas are unlikely to witness any significant precipitation during this period. However, higher altitude areas may experience brief snowfall if cloud cover intensifies.
From January 7 to January 15, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy across Kashmir. No major wet spell or widespread snowfall is anticipated during this phase, allowing normal daily activities to continue without major disruption.
Authorities have advised people, especially those travelling to higher reaches, to remain alert to local weather advisories, as conditions in mountainous areas can change rapidly during winter.
The forecast suggests that the ongoing cold wave conditions may persist due to nighttime temperature drops, even as precipitation activity remains limited in the coming days.
Meanwhile, an advisory has been issued for the Jammu division, warning of moderate fog over the plains with dense to very dense fog likely at a few places over the next three days.
Officials said the foggy conditions are expected to affect visibility during early morning and late evening hours, particularly in low-lying areas and open stretches of highways across the plains of Jammu. The advisory cautions that reduced visibility may pose risks to road traffic and daily commuting.
Commuters have been urged to exercise caution while travelling, especially during the night and morning hours. Drivers have been advised to use fog lights, avoid overspeeding, and maintain safe distances to prevent accidents under poor visibility conditions.
Authorities said fog conditions may also impact vehicular movement on major roads and highways passing through the Jammu plains. People have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and remain alert to changing weather conditions.
