Dense Fog Disrupts Flight Operations at Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar, 04 January (H.S.): Flight services at Biju Patnaik International Airport were disrupted on Sunday morning due to dense fog, leading to delays and inconvenience for passengers. Light to moderate fog enveloped the airport area around 6:30 am, reducing visibility to nearly 50 metres and affecting normal flight operations.

According to airport officials, more than 10 flights were delayed because of poor visibility conditions, resulting in crowding at the terminal as passengers waited for updated schedules. Several flights were rescheduled, though no cancellations or diversions were reported during the morning hours.

The delayed services included flights bound for major destinations such as Guwahati, Mumbai, Delhi, and Prayagraj. Airport authorities said flight movements continued with caution as visibility gradually improved.

Officials also recalled that earlier instances of low visibility had impacted operations at the airport, with at least three flights cancelled and five others delayed when runway visibility dropped below the prescribed operational minimums.

Airport authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions and coordinating with airlines to minimize passenger inconvenience as foggy conditions continue to affect the region.
