
Bhubaneswar, 04 January (H.S.): Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of an auto-rickshaw driver in a road accident involving an ‘Ama Bus’ and an auto near Rupali Square in Bhubaneswar. Extending his condolences to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia assistance of ₹4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The Chief Minister also wished a speedy recovery to the student who sustained injuries in the accident.
Expressing concern over the repeated accidents involving the ‘Ama Bus’ service, the Chief Minister termed the issue serious and directed the Transport Department to take effective corrective measures in coordination with CRUT, the agency responsible for operating the service.
Emphasising the need to enhance driver competence, the Chief Minister instructed that regular training programmes be conducted for ‘Ama Bus’ drivers. He stressed that such training should focus not only on technical driving skills but also on the physical and mental well-being of drivers. He further suggested introducing special training modules to inculcate sensitivity and a sense of responsibility among drivers.
Additionally, the Chief Minister directed Motor Vehicle Inspectors to ensure regular fitness checks of all ‘Ama Bus’ vehicles. He also instructed the Commerce and Transport Department to constitute a special squad to carry out systematic inspections of bus fitness.
The Chief Minister said that to prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents, the Commerce and Transport Department should conduct regular reviews and make sustained efforts to improve overall safety and operational standards.
