Bareilly,
03 Jan (HS): Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, national president of the
All India Muslim Jamaat, has welcomed the recent decision of the Board of
Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He said that by canceling the contract
between Shah Rukh Khan and Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman, the BCCI
has respected the sentiments of both the majority and minority communities in
the country. Calling it a timely and commendable decision, Maulana Barelvi said
that it is important to take public sentiments into consideration along with
sports.
The
Maulana responded to the rhetoric surrounding Shah Rukh Khan. He said that
calling Shah Rukh Khan a traitor is wrong. Shah Rukh Khan is a loyal citizen of
the country and a respected and well-known figure in India. He has brought
glory to the country worldwide.
In
his statement, Maulana also expressed concern over the alleged atrocities
against minority Hindus in Bangladesh. He said that Muslims in India are also
concerned about the atrocities being committed against minorities in
Bangladesh. He demanded that the Indian government put pressure on the
Bangladesh government to immediately put an end to the oppression and
atrocities being committed against minorities there.
