Land dispute turns violent in Sandeshkhali, police attacked, 3 injured


North 24 Paragnas, 03 January (H.S.): A major clash erupted on Friday night in the Bayarmari area under Nazat police station in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, over a land dispute. Local residents attacked police officers who had arrived to apprehend the suspects. Three police officers, including an officer, were injured in the incident. The attackers also vandalized a police vehicle.

According to preliminary information, the police had issued a notice to a local resident, Musa, in connection with a land dispute. Allegedly, Musa had been ignoring the notice for a long time. Therefore, on Friday night, the police went to his area to apprehend him.

Allegedly, when the police went to arrest Musa, his supporters attacked the police and helped him escape. The police vehicle was also damaged during the incident.

Additional police forces arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The police have detained nine local residents in connection with the incident and taken them to Nazat police station.

As per information, the police are also questioning the head and deputy head of the Bayarmari Gram Panchayat to investigate who was involved in the incident. The area is currently tense, and the police are maintaining a high level of vigilance.
