Chennai, 03 January (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday asserted that communal politics is a far more dangerous addiction than alcohol or drugs, urging citizens to remain united against such divisive forces.

Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony of the 'Samathuva Nadai Payanam' organized by MDMK general secretary Vaiko, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to protect the state's harmony from both narcotics and hateful ideologies.

Addressing the gathering, Stalin responded to opposition criticisms regarding the prevalence of narcotics by detailing the state government's rigorous initiatives to curb drug movement. He noted that the state police are working in close coordination with the Union government to tackle the menace effectively.

However, he warned that while drugs ruin health, communal politics destroys the very fabric of society. He expressed concern that several individuals, including some in high positions, are engaging in hate speech to instigate clashes for personal and political gains.

The Chief Minister highlighted that certain communities, including minorities and Scheduled Castes, are living in fear due to rising instances of religious and caste-based divisions. He specifically cited recent attacks during Christmas celebrations as worrying examples of this trend, noting that such an atmosphere did not exist in the country a few years ago.

Furthermore, Stalin appealed to the film industry to stop glorifying drug use in movies and instead focus on creating awareness to save the younger generation.

He concluded by praising Vaiko’s march for equality, stating that the Dravidian movement remains committed to the growth and future of the youth while ensuring social justice for all.
