Chennai, 03 January (H.S.) : In a development that has thrilled fans across the film industry, filmmaker Cibi Chakaravarthi has been officially confirmed to direct Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming landmark 173rd film.
The highly anticipated project, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, marks a significant collaboration as it is being produced by veteran actor Kamal Haasan under his prestigious banner, Raaj Kamal Films International. This venture serves as a celebration of the five decade long friendship between the two legendary icons of Indian cinema.
Cibi Chakaravarthi, who made a stellar directorial debut with the Sivakarthikeyan starrer blockbuster Don, has reportedly secured this massive opportunity after a series of directorial changes. Initially, filmmaker Sundar C was announced as the director, but he recently opted out of the project citing unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.
Following his exit, several names were speculated upon, including young filmmaker Ramkumar Balakrishnan. However, the official announcement on Saturday confirmed Cibi as the director, bringing a fresh and modern perspective to the Superstar’s next outing.
The technical crew is equally impressive, with Rockstar Anirudh Ravichander set to compose the music for the film. The project is being presented by Red Giant Movies and is scheduled for a grand theatrical release during the Pongal festival in 2027.
Authorities from Raaj Kamal Films International stated that this landmark production is envisioned to showcase Rajinikanth’s magnetic screen presence in a unique light. Fans are eagerly awaiting more updates regarding the rest of the cast and crew for this monumental cinematic event.
