Washington, 17 January (H.S.): The Federal Aviation Administration issued urgent notices on Friday, advising airlines to exercise extreme caution across airspace over Mexico, Central America, Panama, Bogota, Guayaquil, Mazatlan oceanic regions, and parts of the eastern Pacific Ocean due to impending military activities.
Officials cited a potentially hazardous situation with risks of interference to the Global Navigation Satellite System from these operations, which the advisory will govern for the next 60 days. This escalation follows a US special forces raid and airstrike on January 3 that captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, transporting them to face trial on drug-trafficking charges.
President Donald Trump intensified rhetoric last week on Fox News, declaring intentions to launch land strikes against drug cartels dominating Mexico—We are going to start now hitting land, with regard to the cartels. The cartels are running Mexico—signaling provocative action against America's key neighbor and trading partner amid reverberations from the Venezuelan intervention.
