Capital Hospital Doctors Hold Silent Protest Over Assault on Colleague

Bhubaneswar, 17 January (H.S.): Doctors at Capital Hospital continued to provide outpatient services on Saturday while wearing black badges to protest the recent assault on an on-duty doctor.

The demonstration was organised by the Junior Doctors’ Association, which has demanded stronger security measures for government healthcare professionals. The protest comes after a patient’s relative allegedly attacked a doctor inside the hospital premises, leaving both the doctor and a supporting staff member injured.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among medical staff, who say that cases of violence against healthcare workers are on the rise.

Despite the protest, doctors ensured that patient care in the OPD remained unaffected. However, they warned that services could be suspended in the coming days if the government does not implement adequate security arrangements.

Health Secretary Aswathy S visited the hospital to review the situation. Addressing the media, she said the government is committed to ensuring the safety of doctors and is coordinating with the police. She added that those responsible for the assault are expected to be arrested soon.
