
Chennai, 16 January (H.S.) : The Semmbiam police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly harassing women and issuing death threats on a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus. The incident took place on Thursday evening on bus route number 242, which was heading towards Shenoy Nagar.
According to the complaint filed by a 29-year-old resident of Shenoy Nagar, she was traveling with her two children when she noticed a man verbally abusing another female passenger. When the victim intervened and questioned his behavior, the man reportedly turned his aggression toward her, using vulgar language and physical assault.
The situation escalated as the accused issued death threats to the woman in front of other passengers. Alert commuters on the bus immediately intervened to subdue the individual and assisted the victim in taking him to the Semmbiam Police Station. A formal complaint was lodged regarding the inappropriate behavior and criminal intimidation.
Following a swift investigation, the police identified the accused as Nizam, a resident of Janakiraman 1st Street in Perambur. The authorities confirmed that the man had indeed behaved inappropriately and posed a threat to the safety of the passengers on the public transport vehicle.
The version of authority from the Semmbiam Police Station Inspector stated that a case has been officially registered and Nizam was placed under arrest. After a thorough interrogation, the police confirmed that the accused is scheduled to be produced before a local court on Friday.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the city police to ensure the safety of women in public spaces and to take strict action against those who engage in harassment or criminal intimidation on public transport.
