New Delhi, 16 January (H.S.): The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation launched online nominations for the prestigious Sukhatme National Award-2026 on Friday, aiming to foster innovation in statistics and accord national recognition to exemplary contributions from domain experts.

The award, to be conferred during the Statistics Day celebrations on June 29, 2026, includes an invitation for the recipient to address a special session, elucidating the significance and accomplishments of their research.

Eligible Indian statisticians aged 45 and above may self-nominate or receive institutional endorsements via the National Award Portal by January 31, 2026; selections hinge on high-caliber research fortifying statistical systems, with winners receiving a citation, shawl, and memento.

Instituted in 2000 as a biennial honor, the award celebrates eminent statisticians delivering exceptional lifetime contributions and research enhancing India's official statistical framework.
