New Delhi, 16 January (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday for his visionary leadership in inaugurating the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Commonwealth (CSPOC) countries, hailing the occasion as a moment of pride not only for India but for the global democratic community.

In an X post, Birla stated, Your inauguration of the 28th CSPOC with your own hands marks a proud milestone for India and the worldwide parliamentary fraternity. He attributed the event's unprecedented participation—India hosting the largest gathering in CSPOC history—to Modi's adept guidance, adding that the Prime Minister's democratic ethos imparts fresh direction and inspiration to global parliamentary practices.

Notably, PM Modi inaugurated the conference on Thursday at the Central Hall of Constitution Bhavan within the Parliament complex, underscoring the presiding officer's unique role in parliamentary democracy: granting few speaking opportunities yet bearing the profound duty to listen attentively and ensure every voice is heard.

He highlighted patience as presiding officers' hallmark virtue, enabling them to manage vociferous or overzealous lawmakers with composure and a smile.
