Nagpur, 16 Jan
(HS): Bharatiya Janata Party has captured 17 municipal corporations among the
results declared till the filing of the report. The BJP-led Mega Alliance is
leading in at least 21 municipal corporations.
A major
attraction of the state being Mumbai, BJP and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde)
alliance is leading and for the first time Mayor of the financial capital of
the country can be a BJP candidate. So far the Mumbai Mayor was of Shiv Sena.
Latur has been
captured by Congress, and Parbhani by Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena. In Chandrapur
Congress is leading and may rule with the help of others. Surprisingly
Vasai-Virara has seen majority of Bahujan Vanchit Aghadi, which is in majority
over BJP-led alliance.
The most
surprising was the emergence of MIM in Maharashtra. The party which was ignored
so far has captured 95 seats in Maharashtra, including Mumbai. Most of the
seats (24) captured by MIM led by Asasuddin Owaisi won in Chhatrapati
Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad). In Amravati the party has captured 15 seats, while
they are leading in Dhule and have also entered Mumbai.
With 25 seats in
Amravati BJP is holding discussion with NCP (Ajit Pawar) which has womn 17
seats. Despite this alliance, if materialised, BJP falls short of three seats
to attain the majority. Planning to talkh to either of Yuva Swabhiman Pary and
Shiv Sena (Shinde) is being made under the leadership of Revenue Minister
Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
In Dhule, a
frustrated BJP worker who was denied the party ticket and his supporters
started pelting stones on BJP’s office. The candidate, after the party rejected
the ticket, contested as an independent candidate and lost. Former mayor of
Dhule was injured in the incident.
In Parbhani, UBT
Sena gained majority.
In Mumbai, the
results will be announced late in the night, and the UBT-MNS alliance is still
hopeful of gaining majority. BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance is leading
Mumbai.
BJP has already
started celebrations in Mumbai. CM Devendra Fadnavis joined the celebrations
and thanked the party workers and voters in Mumbai and Maharashtra for
supporting his party.
