New Delhi, 16 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a significant visit to Assam on Saturday and Sunday, blending cultural celebration with transformative infrastructure development. The itinerary features participation in a historic Bodo cultural extravaganza and the foundation laying for a major elevated wildlife corridor project.

Guwahati Cultural Spectacle

On January 17 at approximately 6 PM, Prime Minister Modi will join Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, honoring the Bodo community's rich heritage. Over 10,000 artists from 81 assembly constituencies across 23 districts will perform the synchronized Bagurumba folk dance, a nature-inspired spectacle traditionally led by young Bodo women with male musicians.

The Bagurumba dance embodies blooming flowers, butterflies, birds, leaves, and natural harmony through graceful, flowing movements in circular or linear formations. Deeply symbolic of peace, fertility, joy, and communal unity, it holds special prominence during Bwisagu (Bodo New Year) and Domasi festivals, showcasing the community's profound bond with the environment.

Kaliabor Infrastructure Milestone

On January 18 at around 11 AM in Kaliabor, Nagaon district, Prime Minister Modi will conduct the Bhoomi Pujan for the ₹6,950 crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project on the Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of NH-715. Spanning 86 kilometers across Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts, this environmentally sensitive initiative includes a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor through Kaziranga National Park, a 21-km bypass, and 30 km of highway widening from two to four lanes.

The project ensures seamless animal movement, minimizes human-wildlife conflicts, enhances road safety, cuts travel times, and accommodates rising passenger and freight demands to Upper Assam hubs like Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

Bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat will decongest urban areas, improving local mobility and living standards while bolstering regional connectivity.

Prime Minister Modi will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains: Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar). These services will fortify rail links between Northeast and Northern India, offering safer, more convenient long-distance travel for residents.
