
Hyderabad, 15 January (H.S.): Police have registered two cases in connection with the alleged vandalism at a temple and subsequent damage to a shrine during an unruly protest by a mob in the Puranapul area of Hyderabad, officials said on Thursday.
Mild tension prevailed in the area late Wednesday night after idols at a temple were found desecrated and an attempt was allegedly made to tear a banner. Following this, a crowd gathered at the spot and began protesting, raising slogans.
During the protest, stones were allegedly pelted, leaving two police personnel with minor injuries. A two-wheeler was also set on fire. Police said that some members of the mob later indulged in vandalism at a nearby shrine.
Police used mild force to disperse the protesters and brought the situation under control. Further investigation into the incidents is underway.
