
Dehradun, 13 January (H.S.): Earthquake tremors struck Bageshwar in Uttarakhand's Kumaon division this morning at 7:25 a.m. The quake registered a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale. Startled by the early-morning tremors, residents rushed out of their homes.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter was located in Bageshwar. With the hypocenter just 10 kilometers beneath the earth's surface, people felt the shaking clearly. The tremors were also sensed 174 kilometers away in Rishikesh and 183 kilometers away in Haridwar.
Information from the State Disaster Management Authority indicates that local authorities have been placed on high alert following the quake. No reports of loss of life or property damage have emerged so far. Some residents reported hearing a rumbling sound along with the jolts, which heightened their fear.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation. Experts note that low-intensity earthquakes like this one typically do not cause damage, but vigilance remains essential in hilly regions. Officials have urged the public not to panic and to contact local authorities in any emergency.
