New Delhi, 13 January (H.S.): The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports advised all recognized National Sports Federations on Tuesday to constitute 'International Relations Committees' and 'Make in India in Sports Committees' within their organizations. These panels aim to bolster India's global sports engagement and sports diplomacy while advancing self-reliant capabilities in line with Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives.

Role of International Relations Committee

The International Relations Committee will monitor changes within relevant international and continental sports federations, covering competition rules, structures, governance, election processes, and athlete-centric programs. It will formulate a medium-term international cooperation roadmap, identifying opportunities for bilateral and multilateral MoUs, joint training camps, exchange programs, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and hosting global events in India.

The committee will ensure all international activities align with Government of India policies, the Olympic Charter, and federation bylaws, upholding principles of good governance, anti-doping compliance, and athlete safety.

Responsibilities of 'Make in India in Sports' Committee

The 'Make in India in Sports' Committee will coordinate with Indian manufacturers, startups, research institutions, testing, and standardization bodies to promote indigenous product development, testing, and certification for specific sports. Its goal is to strengthen the domestic sports manufacturing ecosystem.

The panel will submit periodic reports detailing progress in adopting homegrown solutions, challenges encountered, and recommendations to contribute toward Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat visions.

Timeline for Committee Formation

The International Relations Committee, comprising senior federation officials, former international athletes, coaches, and experts in global sports administration and diplomacy, must submit its structure and terms of reference to the Ministry within 30 days.

The 'Make in India in Sports' Committee, including senior officials, technical experts, former athletes, and at least one specialist in sports equipment, technology, manufacturing, or standards, will have 60 days to provide details.

The Sports Ministry believes these initiatives will enhance India's international sports stature while accelerating indigenous sports product and technology development.
