New Delhi, 12 January (H.S.): German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in India on Monday, January 12, embarking on his inaugural official visit since assuming office, touching down at Ahmedabad airport where Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat extended a cordial reception.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X that Chancellor Merz has reached Ahmedabad for an official trip, noting the momentous occasion of 75 years of diplomatic ties between India and Germany alongside 25 years of their strategic partnership.

This visit, undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, schedules a key meeting between Chancellor Merz and Modi to deliberate various facets of bilateral cooperation.
