Dhaka, 11 January (H.S.): A convicted young inmate met a tragic end at Jamalpur District Jail, as confirmed by acting superintendent Imtiaz Zakaria on Sunday. Legal formalities, including the post-mortem report, will precede handing over the body to the family.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, Sultan Sheikh (40), serving a two-year sentence in a drugs case, died on Saturday at the facility. His father, Chatku Sheikh, resides in Notorkonda, Islamnagar sub-district. Sultan had been incarcerated since December 11 last year and suffered from respiratory and skin ailments; he received treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital.

His condition reportedly deteriorated Saturday morning due to extreme cold.Acting superintendent Imtiaz Zakaria stated that Sultan was rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead on arrival. Zakaria added that authorities will register an unnatural death case in connection with the incident.
