Kolkata, 10 January (H.S.): Based on a tip-off, a joint team of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate's Detective Department (DD) and New Barrackpore police station raided Sajirhat area along Sodpur-Madhyamgram Road and arrested two people with 37.12 kg of marijuana.
According to information received from the police on Saturday, a suspicious vehicle was stopped during the operation. Upon searching the vehicle, a total of 37.12 kg of marijuana, a prohibited narcotic substance, was recovered. Two young men were taken into custody from the spot.
The arrested accused have been identified as Prasenjit Barman (28) and Ayub Ali (22). Both are residents of Cooch Behar district.
After completing all the necessary legal formalities under the provisions of the NDPS Act, the police seized the recovered marijuana and the vehicle. New Barrackpore police station has registered a case under the NDPS Act and has started an investigation.
The police are now trying to ascertain the origin of the marijuana and its intended destination. They are also searching for other individuals involved in this smuggling network.
