Telangana job calendar delay triggers fresh youth protests in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, 10 January (HS): Protests by unemployed youth over the delay in government job notifications continued in Hyderabad for the third time this week on Saturday, with demonstrators gathering at the Chikkadapally Library.

The protesters alleged that police prevented them from taking out a rally from the library to RTC Crossroads by locking the premises. Expressing anger over the prolonged delay in recruitment, the youth demanded that the government immediately release pending job notifications.

“Our parents worked hard for our education, but there are no job notifications. We are roaming on the roads unemployed. The government must release the notifications as soon as possible,” a protester told reporters.

The agitation was triggered by the delay in implementing the job calendar announced by the Congress-led Telangana government in August 2024, which promised two lakh government jobs. The job calendar, released in the Assembly on August 2, 2024, listed 20 recruitment notifications scheduled between September 2024 and July 2025.

The calendar included posts under Group I, II and III services, along with vacancies in departments such as Health and the state power distribution companies. With no fresh notifications issued so far this year, job aspirants say they have been left in the lurch.

Similar protests have been reported across the city in recent days. On January 7, demonstrators blocked traffic near Dilshuknagar Metro Station, raising slogans demanding immediate release of job notifications. On January 8, police detained at least 10 protesters during a demonstration at Ashok Nagar as a preventive measure.

Meanwhile, opposition parties intensified their attack on the state government over the issue. Leaders from the BRS and BJP criticised the police action against protesting youth and accused the government of failing to fulfil its employment promises, calling the delay a breach of trust with job aspirants.
