
Chennai, 10 January (H.S.) : The Tamil survival drama Gevi, directed by Tamizh Dhayalan, has officially entered the race for the 98th Academy Awards. Featuring Aadhavan and Sheela in lead roles, the film has become eligible for consideration in the OSCARS 2026 nomination process.
Produced by Artuptriangles Film Kampany, the narrative is inspired by true events and set against the rugged landscapes of the Western Ghats. The story explores the resilience and human endurance of a couple living in a rural village near Kodaikanal as they fight for justice against unforgiving forces. The film has been successfully uploaded to the Academy Screening Room, a secure digital platform where Academy members view eligible entries to cast their votes.
Producer Jagan Jayasurya expressed immense confidence in the project, stating that the film possesses the scale, craft, and emotional resonance that align strongly with the Best Picture sensibilities of the Academy. He noted that the team is now seeking to engage in a focused and well-structured awards campaign following the positive reception the film has received to date.
Gevi joins other notable Indian entries, including the shortlisted Homebound, in this prestigious global competition. According to the official schedule, Academy members will cast their votes for final nominations between January 12 and January 16, 2026.
The final list of nominees is expected to be announced on January 22, 2026, marking a significant milestone for Tamil cinema on the international stage.
