Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Slams Chief Minister Over Censor Board Remarks

Chennai, 10 January (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagenthran on Saturday strongly criticized Chief Minister M K Stalin for his remarks labeling the Central Board of Film Certification as a weapon of the Central Government. The BJP chief questioned the Chief Minister’s understanding of the process, pointing out that the same board recently cleared the film Parasakthi.

He noted that the film, featuring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Sudha Kongara, received a U/A sixteen plus certificate by following standard protocols. Nagenthran emphasized that the CBFC operates under established rules and regulations, questioning why the Chief Minister would link the certification issues of actor Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan to the BJP government.

The controversy arose after Chief Minister Stalin posted on the social media platform X, accusing the BJP of using various agencies and the censor board as tools of political pressure. However, Nagenthran countered this by stating that the board maintains its independence through legal frameworks.

Regarding the delay of Jana Nayagan, which was originally scheduled for a January 9 release, the BJP leader maintained that any hurdles were strictly due to the board following its set rules. Producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions confirmed that while a court had initially directed a certification, the CBFC challenged the decision, leading to an interim stay.

Nagenthran concluded that the Chief Minister should acknowledge the board’s consistent application of rules across different films instead of making political allegations.
