Four Member Gang Held For Stealing Copper Wires In Namakkal

Chennai, 10 January (H.S.) : A four-member gang was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing copper wires from several private companies in the Pallipalayam area of Namakkal district.

The police have identified the arrested individuals as Sanjay, aged twenty, Subash, aged twenty four, Aaron, aged twenty five, and Edison, who operates a scrap iron shop in the district.

During the operation, the authorities seized a goods autorickshaw containing two hundred kilograms of stolen copper wires, along with a jeep and five motorcycles used by the gang.

The arrests were made during a regular vehicle check on Thursday night when the police intercepted the autorickshaw after it attempted to make a detour upon seeing the security personnel.

Following a brief chase, the police stopped the vehicle and discovered the large quantity of copper material. During the subsequent interrogation, Sanjay, Subash, and Aaron confessed to stealing the wires from two private firms in the district. They revealed that they frequently sold the stolen items to Edison at significantly lower rates.

The investigation was initiated following separate complaints filed on January 4 by a solar firm at Veppadai Lakshmipalayam and a spinning mill at Vellikuttai village. A special police team had been formed to track the culprits after the registration of these cases.

All four suspects were later produced before a magistrate court and have been remanded in judicial custody as the investigation continues.
