Moradabad, 10 Jan (HS): Exporters in Moradabad district, Uttar
Pradesh's brass city, have not yet recovered from the shock of the US's
additional 25 percent tariff, and they are now worried about a 500 percent
tariff. If the 500 percent tariff is implemented, exporters may find it even
more difficult to export handicraft products in the future.
Awadhesh Agarwal, general secretary
of the Moradabad Handicraft Export Association, said on Saturday that if a 500
percent tariff is implemented, it will shake the structure of handicraft
products in the brass city of Moradabad. He said that the price of products
currently exported for two dollars will suddenly increase several times.
According to data from the District Industries Center, 60 percent of the
district's total exports of handicraft products are traded in America alone.
Exporter
Vivek Agarwal said that due to the 25 percent additional tariff, exports to the
US have declined by 30 percent. Now, there are reports of the US imposing a 500
percent tariff on exports. If this is done, exports to the US will become
significantly more expensive. Exporters could suffer significant losses.
