CBI Seizes Vijay Campaign Vehicle In Karur Stampede Case Investigation

Chennai, 10 January (H.S.): In a significant development regarding the Karur stampede case, the Central Bureau of Investigation, also known as the CBI, has seized the election campaign vehicle of TVK chief Vijay.

The vehicle was moved from the party headquarters located in Panaiyur to the agency office in Thanthonimalai near Karur for further forensic and technical investigation. Along with the seizure of the vehicle, the investigative agency also questioned the driver to gather more details regarding the incident.

This action comes just days before the scheduled interrogation of the party president, as the CBI had previously summoned Vijay to appear at its New Delhi office on January 12 for questioning.

The investigation pertains to a tragic stampede that occurred during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam election campaign in Karur in September 2025, which resulted in the loss of forty one lives. The CBI took over the probe from a Special Investigation Team following a Supreme Court order issued in October 2025.

This transfer occurred despite the Tamil Nadu government filing a counter-affidavit seeking to cancel the federal probe. To ensure a transparent process, the apex court has established a three-member supervisory committee led by former judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the investigation.

Authorities stated that multiple stakeholders are being questioned to determine the sequence of events and safety lapses that led to the fatal incident during the political gathering.
