Assam Crosses 1.5 Lakh Government Jobs Mark; CM Distributes Over 6,000 Appointment Letters at Sarusajai

Guwahati, 10 January (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced that the state has crossed the milestone of providing more than 1.5 lakh government jobs since 2021, fulfilling a key promise made during the Assembly elections.

In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said that over 6,000 appointment letters were distributed to candidates selected for Grade-III posts under the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE). “We have given more than 1.5 lakh government jobs so far and more will follow,” Sarma wrote.

The announcement came a day after Dr Sarma distributed appointment letters to 4,369 candidates selected for Grade-IV posts through ADRE. With these fresh appointments, the total number of government jobs provided during the current tenure has reached 1,50,033, surpassing the earlier commitment of one lakh jobs.

Addressing a programme at the Jyoti-Bishnu International Cultural Centre yesterday, the Chief Minister said the ADRE recruitment process was highly complex, with transparency being the biggest challenge. He noted that earlier, separate departmental examinations often overlapped, leading to allegations of corruption and prolonged court cases, which resulted in staff shortages across departments.

To address these issues, Sarma said the government introduced a new law and created separate commissions for Grade-III and Grade-IV posts, establishing a unified recruitment system. He added that examinations were conducted on a single day across 28 districts, with over 9.12 lakh candidates appearing. Internet services were suspended during the exams to ensure fairness.

The Chief Minister said the credibility of the process was evident from the fact that no court cases had arisen in connection with the recruitment.

Urging the newly appointed candidates to serve with dedication, Sarma asked them to ensure timely and efficient services to citizens visiting government offices. He also announced that the ‘Swagat Satirtha’ portal, aimed at facilitating mutual transfers among government employees, will reopen on February 1, 2026.

Emphasising merit-based governance, Sarma said transparent recruitment has restored the confidence of Assam’s youth, while the government continues to promote entrepreneurship as another avenue for employment generation in the state.-----------
