Bhubaneswar, 8 September (H.S.): Utkal University on Monday launched a large-scale eviction drive, codenamed Operation Blue Star, to remove unauthorised occupants from its boys’ hostels.
The drive, which began around 10:30 am, focused on hostels 1, 2, 3 and 5, where outsiders had reportedly been staying for years. Acting on the directives of the university authorities, a joint team comprising police personnel, hostel wardens and senior faculty members carried out the operation. Heavy police deployment across the campus ensured the eviction was completed smoothly, without clashes or disturbances.
The operation was led by senior police officials, including five ACPs, four IICs and 13 SIs, with Zone-5 ACP Biswaranjan Senapati serving as Executive Magistrate. During the drive, authorities found more than 150 rooms occupied by outsiders, several of whom were allegedly linked to external political groups. Personal belongings of the non-students, including clothes and other items, were seized and cleared from the premises, sources said.
University officials have confirmed that the eviction process will continue until all unauthorised occupants are removed, adding that hostel facilities will henceforth be reserved exclusively for enrolled students.
The initiative, officials said, is aimed at restoring discipline on campus and ensuring that hostels serve their intended purpose of providing safe and secure accommodation for Utkal University students.
