Odisha Issues Strict Directives Against Unauthorised Constructions

Bhubaneswar, 8 September (H.S.) :The Odisha Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department has issued stringent directives to curb unauthorised and illegal constructions across the state, following a Supreme Court ruling that called for firm action against such practices.

The order comes in the wake of a December 17, 2024 judgment in which the apex court observed that constructions raised in violation of approved building plans or without planning permission cannot be tolerated. Acting on this, the state government has instructed all development authorities and local bodies to ensure strict compliance with the Odisha Development Authorities Act, 1982, and the Odisha Town Planning and Improvement Trust Act, 1956.

Builders and developers have been directed to submit undertakings that possession of buildings will only be handed over after obtaining valid completion or occupation certificates, while copies of approved plans must be displayed at construction sites.
