Kathmandu, Sept 8 (HS): Nepal’s Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned on Monday, taking moral responsibility for the deaths during violent demonstrations led by Gen-Z protesters.

According to a cabinet member present in the meeting, Lekhak tendered his resignation to Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli during the evening cabinet session. The protests, which escalated into violence earlier in the day, have claimed at least 20 lives so far.

Citing moral grounds, Lekhak stated that he could not continue in office after such a tragedy. Earlier in the day, he had informed party colleagues about his intention to step down, stressing that it was inappropriate for him to remain in his position in the wake of the violence.
