New Delhi, September 8 (HS): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the shortlist for its Player of the Month Award for August. In the men’s category, India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj joins New Zealand’s Matt Henry and West Indies’ Jayden Seales among the nominees. For the women’s category, Pakistan’s Muneeba Ali, Ireland’s Orla Prendergast, and the Netherlands’ Iris Zwilling have been shortlisted.
Siraj produced a match-winning spell against England in the Oval Test, taking three crucial wickets on the final morning to seal a dramatic victory for India. With a total haul of nine wickets in the match, the fast bowler played a decisive role in helping India level the five-Test series 2-2.
New Zealand’s Matt Henry earned the Player of the Series award in the two-Test series against Zimbabwe, claiming 16 wickets across the matches and driving his team to a 2-0 sweep.
West Indies seamer Jayden Seales also impressed, capturing 10 wickets in the three-match home ODI series against Pakistan. His standout figures of 6/18 powered the Caribbean side to their first ODI series victory over Pakistan since 1991, earning him the Player of the Series honour.
In the women’s category, Pakistan opener Muneeba Ali struck an unbeaten century in the third T20I against Ireland, finishing the series with 132 runs. Ireland’s Orla Prendergast made valuable all-round contributions, scoring 144 runs and picking up four wickets across the same series, while also impressing in the European Qualifiers. Netherlands’ Iris Zwilling emerged as one of the most effective bowlers, taking 10 wickets in six matches.
According to the ICC, winners will be determined through a combination of votes cast by an independent panel of experts and global fan participation. Fans can vote for their favourite players on the ICC’s official website, icc-cricket.com/awards.
