New Delhi, September 8 (HS): The Indian men’s hockey team clinched the Asia Cup 2025 crown with a commanding 4-1 victory over defending champions Korea in the final held at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar on Sunday. Following this historic triumph, star midfielder and Olympic medalist Manpreet Singh dedicated the prestigious title to the flood-affected people of Punjab.
Speaking after the win, the 33-year-old from Mithapur village on the outskirts of Jalandhar said, “I want to dedicate this victory to the people of Punjab who are battling devastating floods. Their resilience and courage are our true source of inspiration. This win belongs to every victim striving to rebuild their life and to the selfless volunteers working tirelessly in relief and rescue operations.”
Manpreet, who played a pivotal role in India’s campaign throughout the continental tournament, ensured the team’s direct qualification for next year’s FIH Hockey World Cup, to be jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands.
Punjab has been severely ravaged by floods, with over 2,050 villages across affected districts leaving more than two million people grappling with hardship. Official figures confirm that 48 lives have already been lost, while continuous relief and rescue efforts are underway to support the displaced population.
