Delhi, 8 September (H.S.): Man Arrested For Stealing Gold Kalash Worth ₹1.5 Crore During Red Fort Jain Event
In a dramatic turn of events, Delhi Police have arrested a man accused of stealing golden ritual objects worth nearly ₹1.5 crore from a Jain religious gathering inside Delhi’s Red Fort.
The accused, identified as Bhushan Verma, allegedly blended into the crowd by wearing a traditional dhoti-kurta before making away with two golden urns (jharis), a gold coconut weighing 760 grams, and another urn encrusted with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies. The items were intended for daily rituals and were brought by businessman Sudhir Jain during the ongoing Daslakshan Mahaparv festival.
The theft occurred on September 3 amid a massive gathering for the 10-day celebration. CCTV footage captured Verma discreetly lifting the valuables, which police later tracked to Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, where he was arrested.
Although the stolen gems hold ornamental value, Mr. Jain emphasized the deep sentimental and spiritual significance of the golden kalash, saying, “We can’t put a value on such an object.”
Police revealed that Verma is a repeat offender with multiple cases already registered against him.
