Chennai, 7 September (H.S.): Tamil Nadu is stepping up its efforts to become a global semiconductor hub by setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for semiconductor design and testing. The state has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based Applied Materials to establish an advanced AI-enabled CoE in Chennai.
The CoE will serve as a hub for research and development, fostering innovation in semiconductor technologies. It aims to create over 500 technical job opportunities in the coming years, developing a future-ready talent pool to support the chip industry. The partnership will also collaborate with local universities to boost the state's growing semiconductor ecosystem.
This initiative aligns with Tamil Nadu's broader goal of achieving a USD one trillion economy by 2030, positioning the state as a leading knowledge and innovation hub in South Asia. The state's Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy 2024 aims to attract investments and cultivate a skilled workforce exceeding two lakh individuals by 2030.
