New Delhi, September 7(HS):
In a significant move towards addressing the devastating flood situation in Punjab, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Gurdaspur on September 9, 2025. This visit follows extensive rainfall that has caused widespread flooding across the region, severely impacting lives, agriculture, and infrastructure. The Prime Minister’s visit aims to personally meet flood-affected victims and conduct an aerial survey of the most affected areas, including parts of the border belt around Amritsar and Ferozepur.
Punjab has suffered immense damage with over 1,300 villages affected, standing crops like paddy and sugarcane destroyed, and critical border areas damaged. The Central Government, led by PM Modi, is actively involved in relief efforts, with multiple teams already present on the ground to assess damage and coordinate aid.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit comes at a crucial time when the state government has sought the release of pending aid funds amounting to Rs 60,000 crore for flood relief and rehabilitation. Modi is expected to meet Punjab government ministers and officials during the visit to deliberate on urgent support and relief measures.
The visit highlights the Centre's commitment to stand firm with Punjab’s people during this natural calamity, providing necessary assistance to the farmers and families impacted by the floods. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who recently toured flood-affected districts, underscored the government’s focus on offering sustained support and relief.
