Bhubaneswar, 7 September (H.S.) In a significant move towards building a safer and smarter city, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) has announced the installation of 1,500 AI-enabled CCTV cameras at strategic locations across the city.
Equipped with advanced features like facial recognition and behaviour analysis, the cameras are designed to identify suspicious activities and enhance security, especially for women, children, and senior citizens in public spaces.
Beyond public safety, the AI-powered system will also bolster traffic regulation by automatically detecting violations such as helmetless riding, wrong-side driving, and red-light jumping. The live feeds will be closely monitored at an Intelligent Command and Control Centre, where trained operators will support enforcement agencies in real time.
Officials said the collected data will not only aid crime prevention and law enforcement but also provide valuable insights for urban planning and easing traffic congestion in the state capital.
This initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Bhubaneswar’s image as a technology-driven, safe, and citizen-friendly city.
