Kolkata, 5 September (H.S.): The spell of rains is expected to continue in Bengal even during the Durga Puja season, with the Meteorological Department predicting showers in several districts on Friday.

According to the Alipore Meteorological Office, light to moderate rainfall is likely in Howrah, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Birbhum, and Murshidabad districts. Though heavy rainfall is not anticipated, gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph may lash coastal and adjoining areas.

In Kolkata, the sky will remain partly cloudy with chances of light to moderate showers. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32°C, while the minimum may remain close to 27°C. On Thursday, the city recorded a maximum of 31.2°C, which was 1.2°C below normal, and a minimum of 27.2°C, 0.9°C above normal. Humidity levels stayed between 80 and 95 percent.

Meanwhile, a heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Alipurduar in North Bengal. Districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and North Dinajpur are also likely to experience thunderstorms with rain. From Sunday to Wednesday, several parts of North Bengal may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, the weather office said.
