Imphal, 04 September (HS): Manipur Police and Security Forces carried out multiple operations across the state in last 24 hours, leading to the seizure of a huge stockpile of weapons, explosives, narcotics and the arrest of several persons, including insurgent cadres and smugglers.
At Heingang Ching in Imphal East, police teams recovered an AK-56 rifle, an M16 rifle, three hand grenades, five tube launchers, a bullet-proof jacket with two plates, an RPG shell, and assorted ammunition.
Another operation at Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai and Kolbung Village in Bishnupur district resulted in the recovery of one INSAS rifle, one DBBL gun, two SBBL guns, a country-made pistol, live ammunition of various calibres, gelatin sticks, detonators and a cordex wire.
Security Forces also arrested Konjengbam Ajit Singh alias Suresh (54), a member of RPF/PLA, from Khurai Puthiba Leikai in Imphal East. An Aadhaar card and a small cash amount were found on him.
In a separate operation, Kongbrailatpam Hemabati Devi alias Khomei (57), linked to the KCP (PWG) and allegedly involved in extortion and illegal loan recovery, was apprehended at Imphal West. Her scooter, mobile phones and identity documents were seized.
At the Tadubi Check Post in Senapati district, forces detained five individuals with 2.057 kgs of brown sugar, two vehicles and eight mobile phones. During follow-up action, Kimneilam Haokip of Kangpokpi, believed to be connected with the contraband, was also taken into custody.
Meanwhile, in Churachandpur district, four persons were intercepted at Lamzang and found carrying 1.5 kgs of brown sugar packed in 122 soap cases, one Alto car, one two-wheeler and five mobile phones.
According to officials, the coordinated operations have dealt a strong blow to illegal arms circulation and drug trafficking networks in Manipur.
