Howrah, 3 September (H.S.): A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 28-year-old youth in Uluberia, Howrah district, on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Shyampur Road near Baganda Monsatala under Shyampur police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Monirul Islam, a resident of Shyampur. According to police, Monirul was on his way to his shop on a motorcycle when his bike slipped on soil dumped by the roadside. He lost control and was thrown onto the road. At that moment, a brick-laden truck approaching from Gate 58 ran him over, killing him instantly.
Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem to Uluberia Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical College. The accident sparked tension in the locality, prompting Shyampur and Uluberia police to rush to the spot and bring the situation under control.
The truck has been seized, but the driver managed to flee and is currently absconding. An investigation has been initiated into the incident.
