New Delhi, September 3 (HS): The legal tussle between Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai has escalated further, with Dehadrai moving the Delhi High Court against a trial court order that barred the public dissemination of proceedings related to the custody of their pet dog, Henry.
A bench led by Justice Manoj Jain issued notice to Mahua Moitra on Dehadrai’s plea and scheduled the next hearing for December 22. During the proceedings, the court questioned why both parties could not amicably resolve the matter.
Appearing for Dehadrai, advocate Sanjay Ghose informed the bench that Moitra was seeking joint custody of the dog before the trial court. He argued that the lower court’s March 6 order prohibiting public discussions on the case amounted to a violation of the right to freedom of expression and contradicted Supreme Court precedents. Ghose further alleged that a false case had been filed against Dehadrai and that the trial court’s directive prevents him from writing or speaking publicly about the matter.
Dehadrai’s petition stated that he had merely posted a tweet on social media platform X sharing the fact of the trial court proceedings without disclosing details of the case. Nevertheless, the trial court deemed it a breach of its order and imposed a blanket bar on public commentary about the dispute.
