New Delhi, September 3 (HS): The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has welcomed the restoration of its partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the reinstatement of the Olympic Solidarity programs, marking what is seen as a major milestone for the governance and development of Indian sport.

In a letter to the IOA President, the IOC commended the recent governance reforms and decisive steps taken by both the IOA and the Government of India, designed to strengthen support for athletes from the grassroots to the elite level. It specifically highlighted the formal appointment of Raghuram Iyer as IOA CEO and the adoption of the National Sports Governance Act as landmark measures to reinforce the foundations of India’s sports system.

The revival of Olympic Solidarity programs is set to provide direct benefits to Indian athletes, granting them enhanced access to training support, preparation resources, and funding opportunities for participation in the Olympic Games and other global competitions.

IOA President Dr. P.T. Usha hailed the development as a historic moment for Indian sport, stating: “This reflects the shared commitment of the IOA and the Government of India to uphold the highest standards of governance under a new, transformative sports policy. This renewed collaboration with the IOC will play a pivotal role in helping our athletes realize their Olympic dreams.”

The IOA reaffirmed its pledge to continue working in close partnership with the IOC to strengthen the Olympic movement in India and provide sustained support to the nation’s athletes.
