- Urges Students to Embrace Innovation and Character Building

Guwahati, 03 September (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday addressed the 12th convocation of Assam Down Town University at its Panikhaiti campus, congratulating the graduating students on their achievements and encouraging them to embrace innovation, discipline, and character building.

Calling Convocation Day a sacred occasion for students, teachers, and institutions alike, the Governor lauded the graduates’ perseverance and expressed gratitude to parents, teachers, and research supervisors for their role in shaping the students’ success. He also appreciated the university’s dynamic progress, highlighting its 278 MoUs at national and international levels as a sign of collective excellence.

Governor Acharya underscored the rapid expansion of higher education under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting India’s growing global presence in academics, research, and industry. He urged graduates to showcase their talent and skills on national and international platforms while reminding faculty to inspire students toward innovation and scientific discovery that addresses societal needs.

Emphasizing experiential learning, he suggested that at least 20% of teaching should be conducted through projects outside the classroom. He also stressed the importance of youth power, skill development, ethics, and service in nation-building, while advocating a balance between modern knowledge and traditional values in character formation.

At the ceremony, the university conferred the D.Sc. degree on Dr. Randeep Guleria and the D.Litt. degree on Dr. SriSri Pitambar Dev Goswami. A total of 1,858 students—including 1,417 undergraduates, 419 postgraduates, and 22 PhD scholars—received their degrees at the convocation.
