Kolkata, 27 September (H.S.) A young man died after being electrocuted at a puja pandal in Sonarpur on Saturday morning during Durga Puja. The deceased has been identified as Vishwajit Saha, a member of the puja committee.

As per information, heavy rains lashed Kolkata and surrounding areas from Monday night to Tuesday morning, causing waterlogging in several areas. Meanwhile, nine people died from electrocution in various locations in North and South Kolkata. This tragic incident occurred shortly after this incident at a Barwari puja pandal in Ward No. 20 of the Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality area.

According to local sources, Vishwajit Saha arrived at the puja pandal on Saturday morning. He was electrocuted upon touching a part of the pandal. People present there immediately turned off the power supply and rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

On information, the police arrived at the scene and sent the body for a postmortem. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the area.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
