Guwahati (Assam), 27 September (HS): On the auspicious occasion of Panchami, Guwahati is abuzz with Durga Puja festivities as major pandals across the city are being decked out with special themes, cultural programs and artistic grandeur.

Among them, the Kamakhya Nagar Durga Puja in Pandu stands out as it steps into its 31st year. Known for its scale, heritage and unique celebrations, the puja has become one of the most prominent events in Guwahati’s festive calendar.

According to organizers, the celebrations will begin with the inauguration on Panchami and conclude with the immersion on Dashami. The idol will be unveiled by the Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission, Ulubari. As in previous years, a major highlight will be the “Open Quiz Competition” on Maha Ashtami, hosted by noted quizmaster Abhra Das.

A key attraction this year is the puja’s eco-friendly approach. The pandals and decorations have been created entirely with sustainable materials, reflecting a conscious move toward environmental responsibility. On Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, thousands of devotees are expected to join the community feast, where mahaprasad will be served.

General Secretary Sanjay Sengupta said the preparations, which took nearly three months, have been a collective effort of the residents. He extended a warm invitation to the people of Guwahati and Assam to witness the celebration, which promises to be a vibrant blend of devotion, culture, and community spirit.
