Sivasagar (Assam), 27 September (HS): With the invocation of Goddess Durga on Mahalaya, Assam is gripped by the festive spirit of Durga Puja. Preparations are in full swing, with vibrant decorations, dazzling lights and palpable excitement marking the onset of the celebrations.

With just two days left for Sharadiya Durga Puja Shaptmi, artisans are working round the clock to give final touches to clay idols. In Sivasagar district, Ganakpatti, home to one of the largest idol-making hubs, is witnessing heightened activity. The artisans, many with over 15 years of experience, are meticulously detailing the idols to perfection.

Durga idols from Ganakpatti are supplied not only across Sivasagar but also to other districts of Assam. Prices vary between ₹25,000 and ₹1 lakh, depending on the size and design, the craftsmen informed.--------
