Muslim League Demands New District out of Malappuram in Kerala

Kochi, 25 September(H.S): Close on the heels of the demand made by Islamic terrorist organizations Popular Front of India and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the Muslim League too has joined the chorus for carving out a new district out of Malappuram, known popularly as mini Pakistan in India.

Kurikkoli Moideen, a member of the Legislative Assembly, who is a confidante of the League President, said that Malappuram has a large population and area which has made it difficult for the district administration to make government benefits and development initiatives to reach all areas of the district.

The only option is to carve out another district from Malappuram which would make the development initiatives reach the entire population. Moideen was addressing a public rally at Thirur staged by the Muslim League demanding the bifurcation of the district. He said the district was crying for development and the only solution available to make government schemes accessible to the people is through creating a new district.

Though, the SDPI and PFI has gone pubic with their demands for creating a new district, the Muslim League had kept silent over the issue. But the League, which played a major role under the leadership of Mohammed Ali Jinnah in carving out Pakistan, was always for forming a new district from Malappuram as a prelude to bifurcate the other north Kerala districts. The grapevine is that the leaders of Muslim League have taken up the issue with the CPI(M) and Congress leaders. Both parties , known for their hatred for Hindus in the State, have agreed to the League’s demand though they are yet to react to such demands.

The frontal organizations of Muslim League, viz the Youth League, the students wing and the women’s wing are on record demanding the bifurcation of Malappuram.

The Muslim League hopes to form a separate Malabar State by integrating areas spread out in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod where the Muslims constitute a major chunk of the population.
