South 24 Parganas, 24 September (H.S.) A violent clash erupted between two groups over an under construction club in West Hatamari village of Nikarighata Gram Panchayat in Canning of South 24 Parganas district, on Tuesday evening. At least 10 people from both sides were injured in the clash.
According to local sources, the dispute was over a roadside club under construction. Club members alleged that the club was established in 2014. At that time, a person donated the land, and the club is being built on the same site. A person named Bholanath Naskar recently purchased land adjacent to the club. Allegedly, since purchasing the land, he has been trying to remove the club from the site.
Club members said that Bholanath and his men arrived on Tuesday evening to forcibly occupy the club's land. When they resisted, a clash broke out between the club members and local residents. Videos of several people brandishing sharp weapons went viral on social media.
Around 10 people from both sides were injured in the incident and were admitted to the Canning District Hospital. On information, the police from the Canning police station arrived at the scene, but they also faced opposition from local residents.
Meanwhile, Bholanath Naskar's family alleged that members of the club had filed a false case against them. On Tuesday, Bholanath and his son were returning after being granted bail in that case when they were attacked. Subsequently, other family members arrived and were also attacked.
The Police have launched an investigation into the matter, and three people have been detained and are being questioned.
