New York,September 24(HS): French President Emmanuel Macron has said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambitions of winning the Nobel Peace Prize would only be possible if he succeeds in stopping the Gaza war. Speaking to France’s BFM TV on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Macron asserted that Trump was the only world leader with real leverage to pressure Israel into halting the conflict.

“There is one person who can do something about it, and that is the U.S. president,” Macron said, stressing that unlike Washington, European nations do not provide weapons sustaining the Gaza hostilities.

Trump, addressing the UNGA on Tuesday in a fiery speech, dismissed proposals by Western allies to back Palestinian statehood, calling such moves a “reward for Hamas militants.”

At the same time, he declared, “We have to stop the war in Gaza immediately. We have to immediately negotiate peace.”Macron, weighing in on Trump’s speech, noted the U.S. president’s eagerness to project himself as a peacemaker.

“He reiterated from the podium: ‘I want peace. I have resolved seven conflicts.’ He wants the Nobel Peace Prize. But that will only be possible if he ends this war,” Macron remarked.

Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by several countries, including Israel, Pakistan, and Cambodia, citing his role in brokering peace agreements. He has also publicly argued that he deserves the accolade, previously awarded to four American presidents.
