Kolkata, 24 September (H.S.): Following the deaths due to electric shock during Monday night's incessant rain and waterlogging in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased. She stated that the state government would provide financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to each family.

The Chief Minister stated that if CESC does not provide employment to the families of the deceased, the state government will provide a special home guard job to one member. Furthermore, she also announced that CESC would provide ₹5 lakh to the families of the deceased.

On Wednesday morning, Mamata Banerjee spoke with the families of the deceased over the phone. In the afternoon, during the inauguration of Durga Puja in Bhawanipur, she announced financial assistance and jobs for the families of the deceased.

Speaking on the waterlogging situation in Kolkata, the Chief Minister said, The situation is now largely under control. Water has receded from most areas, with only some low-lying areas remaining, which will clear soon. He also took aim at the central government, saying, There were water releases from the DVC, Maithon, and Farakka barrages, as well as the high tide in the Ganga. Despite this, the municipal corporation has done a great job.
