Guwahati, 24 September (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, accompanied by First Lady Kumud Devi, visited the Kahilipara residence of late music icon Zubeen Garg on Wednesday to pay respects and offer condolences to the bereaved family.
The Governor conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to Zubeen’s father, Mohini Mohan Borthakur and wife, Garima Garg, expressing deep sorrow over the singer’s untimely demise. Calling Zubeen’s death a “monumental loss to the nation,” Acharya described him as a gifted singer, composer and cultural ambassador who was “more than an artiste, but a living legend of Assam’s identity.”
Highlighting Zubeen’s values, the Governor said he rose above divisions of caste, creed and community and his music reflected inclusivity, equality, and brotherhood. “Zubeen was a true champion of justice, compassion and harmony,” Acharya added.
He assured the grieving family that Zubeen’s voice and ideals would continue to inspire generations, even though he is no longer physically present.
